he South African Police Service (SAPS) have confirmed that a case has been opened and under investigation following allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Marius Fransman, the Western Cape ANC chairman and former Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation.
Those privy to details are tight-lipped about incident which is said to have happened in Rustenburg, North West, the epicentre of the ANC’s 104th celebrations at the weekend.
North West police spokesperson, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone, only said a case had been opend and that it was under investigation. No arrest had been made, he said, adding: “This is the only information we are giving at the moment. We are not even divulging what case was opened and who is the accused.”
The ANC said in a media statement it had been made aware of a charge of sexual harassment laid against its member.
“We are awaiting the outcome of the police investigation. We reaffirm ANC gender policy with regards to respect for women's rights,” Zizi Kodwa, the ANC national spokesperson, said.
When The Star contacted him, Fransman said he could not comment immediately as he was driving to Rustenburg from the Sun City Resort. “I will write down what I want to say in a statement which will be sent out to the media,” he said.
